Creating the Future

Martha Clarke's In the NightThe mission of the Division of Performing Arts is to make the arts as a whole more visible locally, nationally, and internationally. The goal of Creating the Future is to encourage and support substantial initiatives from the units of the Division, singly or in cooperation with one another, that help realize this mission.

These initiatives may take many shapes. They include performance projects, symposia, year-long cross-campus programs, high level conferences, guest-artist series, “creative campus” events, scholarly collaborations etc. In many cases, but not all, they are interdisciplinary in nature, connecting Division units to one another or to faculty across the University. In every case they reach well beyond a unit’s normal activities in adventurous, creative, entrepreneurial ways to “make the arts more visible.”
